At the age of 12, with friends from the church choir, I took part in local TV talent show, Rolling Good Times and won the Girl Groups category. Since then I've performed in musicals as part of the Singapore Repertory Theatre as well as festivals such the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Festival (France), Laneway Festival (Singapore), BIGSOUND (Australia), V-ROX (Russia) and Concrete & Grass Festival (China). I've released music on major labels such as Universal & the now defunct EMI, as well as on independent labels, Syndicate, Groove Note Records, Medallion Sounds. I also recently founded my imprint, Ownself Records.
Apart from creating music, supporting and contributing to my community has always been important to me. Back in 2006, after graduating with merit from Ngee Ann Polytechnic with a diploma in Mass Communication, I joined Mediacorp Radio’s 987fm. There I helmed morning drive time while pushing local music forward through my acoustic live weekend show, 987Stripped, til 2010. After a 2 year stint in Los Angeles I returned to Singapore and became Programme Director of Lush99.5fm, re-branding the station to play indie/electronica with a focus on local art and contemporary music. The station made history in 2014 by playing 24 hours of all local music, reached over 1 million on social in the #ilistentolush campaign in 2015 and co-presented Singapore Sound System at BIGSOUND in Brisbane together with the National Arts Council.
Currently I make music, whether soulful organic covers as Vanessa or soul/electronica as Vandetta. I make sure to keep contributing to the SG scene and present Singapore Sounds for news radio station 938 NOW, as well as mentor young artists under the Noise Music Mentorship Programme.
